Great window dressing and visual merchandising sells to everyone passing by. What's more, your techniques and creativity sell YOU as much as your stuff.

50% of all purchase decisions made on impulse. So a window with little in it is clearly missing a trick. Equally, present people with clutter, frustrate their browsing and you'll achieve the same. You need is something in the middle. Something that grabs the attention of those in a hurry and engages those that aren't. Something that isn't just great to look at but draws in customers and makes you money.

Winning window displays don't just happen – they're the result of carefully considered trade-offs. What do you want to sell? What will passers-by want to buy? How best to present your offerings? And even once you've settled on what you want to do, crafting and creating one is no small feat. To be successful you don't just need to design window displays, you need to be able to construct and build them to look great and be everything you want them to be.

Window displays are not an exact science - there are infinite ways to present the same thing. And let's face it, making window displays isn't in your DNA, computers are. Putting a display together can be a chore at best and at worst, something you ignore. But, help is at hand.

Drawing on my own retail experience and from the dozens of independent IT retailers I've met, I've prepared three blogs to help you. Covering a total of 21 key tips, the first details how to design a window display, the second covers how to create and make one, and the third sets out more advanced techniques for making great displays stunning. This complete mini ‘course' is advice for IT retailers not available anywhere else. If you're interested in finding out more, start with the first: "How to Design a Window Display".
