Build a Better Business (2016 Target Trade Show Guest Speaker Programme)

Posted On - 09/09/2016 06:17:28

We can't close the skills gap, but we can help you build a better businessThe skills gap is a big issue. The education system is failing employers. Graduates are doing unskilled jobs; kids are leaving school ‘unemployable'. And it's not just the UK: the rest of Europe and the US has ‘gaps' too.

We can't solve it, but we can help you. ShopTalk was founded to help you build a better business. When our MD was asked "how can I win more business?" he answered by setting up customers a business development service. So why not come to the Target 2016 Open Day and find out what ShopTalk's all about?

A Trade Show unlike anything you've experienced before

Typical trade shows are so crass. They're about profiting through ticket sales and selling wares at inflated prices. What should be an enjoyable day out for you becomes anything but. The only conversations are about sales and the whole thing costs you a fortune.

We don't do any of that. Ours is free.  Ours is informal. Ours is about people. Ours is about meeting and getting to know. Ours is about learning and having a good time. Ours is truly different.

The 2016 Show is a benchmark

We've staged an Open Day every year since 2008. From a large tent in our car-park they're now at a prestige hotel. From a few dozen people ending the day with a sandwich and beer, they now include a free three-course dinner for over 250.

We think these are signs of success. And this year takes the story forward again. Our 2016 Show has a bigger and better line up guest speakers than ever. Let's take a look at who they are and what they're doing.

How Much Do You Need? (St James's Place Wealth Management)

We're putting on a special workshop at our Open Day. Called "How to create a business worth buying" it's all about valuing and selling a business. Whether you sell to realise cash or retire what matters is the price you get. And if you don't have any idea how much you need you won't know when to sell or what's a decent offer.

We've two experts coming along to help. The first, James Urquhart from St James's Place Wealth Management, is an expert in pensions and investments.  James is coming because state pension's provision doesn't add up to much. And you need to understand how selling your business could help.

How to Bargain with Hagglers (BCMS Corporate Limited)

The second expert taking part in "How to create a business worth buying" is Luke Rebbettes. Luke is from BCMS who are in the business of selling privately owned businesses.

Now selling businesses is certainly a process that needs handling the right way legally. But more it's a process that if done commercially could yield you value far greater than you think. This is more than dotting-the-i's-and-crossing-the-t's on a contract, this is about finding multiple buyers, creating competition and managing negotiations. These are things it would be difficult for any owner to do themselves. So it's great to get the insights from experts with this kind of experience.

Where are you? (Google)

In the UK 88% of search uses Google - if it's done from a smart-phone it's 94%. Google dominates search and if your website isn't working well on it, where are you?

To help you get to grips with how Google find you, they're coming to the Open Day. With a stand at the exhibition to answer all your questions about search and SEO, they'll be running specific workshops about how to use Adwords Express. It's their special tool for small business – allowing you to set up an ad in 15 minutes or less. Come along and join in. Find out how Google can help take your website from invisible to visible.

Testament to endorsement (KitGuru)

Reviewer awards are the holy grail of systems builders. Gaming or performance PC builder, the accolade marques your expertise. But getting them can seem a dark art. And if you can't pay a reviewer to consider your stuff, what chance is there of getting one? Is it even worth trying if you're small?

To help answer all these questions KitGuru are coming to talk at the Open Day. With 300,000 followers on social media and monthly website audiences of some 1.3 million their opinions matter. Getting a review from KitGuru is gold-dust. If you'd like to find out what it takes to get one, why not join their session and find out. It may not be as hard as you think.

Hi. Yes there's lots on. This is deliberate - it's so you're always able to choose what's best for you, rather than just going along to something because it's on. Remember, with the exception of "How to create a business worth buying" all sessions are on twice thru the day. Also, with the exception of Amazon and Google all are recorded on video and will be blogged out subsequently. One way or another, either in person or by recording, you should be able to 'see' everything. See you there!
