Keith Sorrel, Airedale Computers, Castleford and Pontefract.

About the Awards

Like shop windows, internal retail displays are part of being a retailer. And together these are what merchandising is all about. Show casing your products and services to best advantage at every opportunity. So like the shop window Award, having the ‘Best Internal Retail Display' Award in 2014 is a no brainer. The Award serves to recognise those with great internal retail displays.

For 2014 Best Event has been extended. Events are a hugely powerful way to promote you and your business can take many forms: open days, training courses, informal talks, running self-help groups, demonstrations, webinars, staging surveys and participation in good causes. For the Award the scope also includes recorded events on YouTube and podcast such as product demonstrations or advice sessions. For this reason this year this Award is titled ‘Best Event or Activity'. The Award serves to recognise those using events well to promote themselves and their business.

Why is it worth winning ‘Best Internal Retail Display'?

Visitors expect retail displays - not having them dissapointsYou're paying rent to have your retail floor, so not getting the most from it is plain daft. And like shop windows retail displays ‘speak' to customers. Visitors to shops expect them – it's what retailers do. So they look out for them – they're an anticipated attraction, they're part of the experience.

Most importantly what you choose is taken as a suggestion and recommendation. From all the things you could choose you singled out those things to create a display. You must think those things special and that means they're worthy of consideration. So not having internal retail displays – just relying on stacking shelves with your stuff – is a let-down for visitors. Because you're not really a shop, you're a warehouse. And if they think of you like that, you're missing out.

Well put together – considered - retail displays work

They sell. If you've never really thought about an internal retail displays that's fine – this blogs full of advice and, put your mind to it, you could create a display and have an entry submitted in an hour or two.
