AMD's latest range of processors, the Ryzen (3rd Generation) 3000 Series, were launched after the NDA was lifted at 3pm on Sunday 7th July.
The all-new chipset has been highly anticipated after suggestions in the media AMD would be outperforming Intel's equivalent CPUs at around half the price.
The new 3000 Series Ryzen range is the first to include 7nm architecture, with more transistors on a smaller chip at lower power, as well as being the first range to include PCIe 4.0 for up to 32Gbps data throughput. AMD believes that these features result in up to 58% greater efficiency than Intel equivalents.
The Ryzens also feature improved multithread and multicore performance, improved IPC as well as AMD's increased cache, GameCache, an overdrive function called Precision Boost, and controllable overclocking.
The Ryzen 3000 Series launch also coincides with new ranges of compatible motherboards, the X570 range from Biostar, Gigabyte and ASRock, and AMD Radeon RX5700 graphics cards.

Professional entertainer and TV personality, Chrissy Bray, will be providing her own unique brand of evening entertainment at the 2019 Target Open Day on 27th September in Bradford.
After the sensational feedback received from Target's 20th anniversary event last year, the distributor has booked her again, with a whole new act entitled "Back To The Future" - rounds of quizzes, karaoke and other activities will centre around decades of music from the 60s up to the present day.
The Target Open Day 2018 evening's proceedings saw even the most entertainment-resistant attendees unwinding thanks to Chrissy's reassuring-yet-high-energy style that saw rounds of air-guitar playing, paper-aeroplane flying and karaoke (with wildly varying degrees of success, of course).
The evening entertainment will be the crescendo to a full day of exhibitions, workshops, one-to-one discussions between resellers and vendors, as well as the opportunity for attendees to network and share ideas. For more information and to register for the free event, click here.
The networking manufacturer has been making big strides in the UK market thanks to a huge range of wired and wireless enterprise solutions, excellent support and reliable products.
Target also has qualified Enterprise Wireless and Broadband Wireless Admin personnel available for customers to contact anytime with queries they have - they will be on hand to discuss any support they can offer attendees with upcoming installations and opportunities.

Target has just launched its brand new website with a raft of new features - many of which were suggested by the distributor's customers.
Target's Web Development Team collated suggestions from resellers to determine enhancements and features. A number of resellers who attended Target's NewTech event also volunteered to act as beta-testers for the new site prior to launch.
As a result, Target completely redesigned the website to create a web experience its customer base requested, with new features: price breaks for bulk purchases; easier navigation via streamlined menus; improved search function; dynamic filtering within search results and menus; recommended add-ons to all products; improved parcel tracking for consignments.
In addition, many products now also include a downloadable marketing materials tab where users can download web banners, email templates, posters and other materials directly from the product listing.
The new website will see more features added in the coming months.
Due to increased customer demand, Target has launched a new range of hard drive enclosures and docking stations.
Designed for resellers to use themselves in creating external hard drives, or to sell as is, the enclosure range includes 3.5", 2.5" and a new M.2 form factor. This allows resellers to create superfast portable drives from new, refurbished or existing hard drives.
The new range of docking stations include single and dual bays, allowing access to drives without installing them on a PC. In the case of the dual docks, SSDs, 2.5" or 3.5" drives can be cloned from one to another directly, again with no need to install on a PC - often used by resellers for repairs and upgrades or by system integrators to deploy operating systems quickly.

Target Components's free event, NewTech, took place on Friday 25th January, comprising an exhibition, vendor presentations, a networking opportunity for resellers and, for the first time, auctions.
The event was an opportunity for over 100 resellers to see products from Target's latest brand acquisitions including Ubiquiti Networks, ECS EliteGroup, Thermaltake, Transcend, Linksys, F-Secure, QNAP and AVerMedia.
It also gave attendees the chance to see product ranges 'in the flesh' for the first time, including the distributor's own Evo Labs brand dashcams, QI compatible wireless chargers and hard drive caddies, as well as first-looks at imminent ranges of docking stations, hard drive replicators and disk enclosures.
Exhibition highlights included pro streamer Brin 'Wooly' Woolhead demonstrating AVerMedia's range of capture and streaming devices on the newly launched Resident Evil 2 remake, streaming gameplay in 4K to both YouTube and streaming site Twitch. Thermaltake offered advice and demonstrations on PC modding and liquid cooling, courtesy of professional modder, Adam Faulkner, whilst the ECS EliteGroup stand demonstrated digital signage using the manufacturer's flagship mini-PC, the Liva Q2, the World's smallest 4K PC.
Presentations around product roadmaps and range highlights were delivered by Transcend explaining its dashcam and Apple storage ranges, F-Secure explaining the opportunities around its VPN products and reseller scheme, Thermaltake showing its cooling and RGB offerings and QNAP discussing its home and business NAS devices and apps.
In line with the event's 'in with the new, out with the old' event moniker, Target also held a range of auctions where attendees could pick up a broad range of products at hugely discounted prices, including Microsoft Surfaces, motherboards, networking devices and gadgets.
The evening's events culminated in a free bar and meal, with many attendees staying to discuss business opportunities and catch up with vendor representatives, Target account managers and Target staff.

Target Components has been appointed UK distributor by motherboard and hardware manufacturer, ECS EliteGroup.
The appointment means Target now stocks ECS’s range of motherboards, barebones and small form factor PCs.
ECS (EliteGroup Computer Systems) was established in Taiwan in 1987 as a manufacturer of motherboards and, after merging with PCChips, extended its range to become one of the largest manufacturers in the World. The company has won several accolades including first manufacturer to produce a 64-bit motherboard, first to introduce dual-chip motherboards, and first motherboard manufacturer to be listed publicly in Taiwan, resulting in its first year of 1.5m unit sales in 2001.
This heritage and commitment to producing low-cost, high-quality motherboards has resulted in ECS being chosen as OEM manufacturer for several high-profile brands over the past 20 years.
Distributor Target now stocks ECS EliteGroup’s motherboard and mini-PC range, including the smallest 4K PC in the World, the Liva Q2.
Martyn Kirby, Target’s Head of Purchasing, explained: “We’re delighted to have ECS on board, they’re well-known throughout the industry for quality products. What’s less well-known is that they manufacture on behalf of several other well-known brands - many of our customers will have used ECS in the past, although they may not realise it. We’ll be showing the range at our free event, NewTech, on 25th January, including a demonstration of the formidable Liva Q2, the World’s smallest 4K PC which is ideal for a range of uses, including digital signage or as a powerful but discreet family PC.”
ECS EliteGroup’s European Sales Manager, Aurora Hung, said; “We are delighted ECS EliteGroup is being distributed by Target. Many of their customers will be very aware of ECS already but this is a great opportunity to get in front of lots of different types of resellers, from independent retailers to systems builders, repair specialists, value-added resellers and service providers. And we’re really looking forward to the response to our newest mini-PCs.”
The ECS EliteGroup range is now available at Target and will be being demonstrated at Target’s NewTech event in Castleford on 25th January. To see the range, click here.
Target Components has been appointed exclusive UK distributor by gaming manufacturer, Thermaltake.
Thermaltake was established in 1999, opening offices in Taiwan and the US simultaneously. Originally manufacturing air cooling for computer chassis, resulting in the World’s first turbine cooler, the ‘Golden Orb’, Thermaltake has become renowned for innovation, working with some of the World’s most well-known design houses such as BMW’s DesignworksUSA. In the last three months alone the manufacturer has won several accolades including an International Design Excellence Award (IDEA) and iF Product Design Awards for three different products.
The manufacturer has since become a World-recognised gaming brand amongst DIY enthusiasts and currently sponsors several esports teams, producing custom PCs for its players through its TteSPORTS division.
Martyn Kirby, Target’s Head of Purchasing, commented: "Thermaltake is another fantastic name to add to our roster with a proven pedigree of really high-quality and innovative design. Our customers will benefit from an integrity of pricing that allows for good margins and, most importantly, everyone being on a level playing-field."
He continued,"“I'm sure those who saw the range first-hand at the Open Day in September will agree, Thermaltake's attention to detail in the design of their products is impressive. But many were surprised how inexpensive they were considering the fantastic build quality."
Thermaltake's UK Business Development Manager, Ming Kei Wu, said; "We want Thermaltake to be recognised as the leading gaming brand and Target's customer base is a great way of achieving that. Their reseller customers, whether independent IT shops or system builders, have a wealth of experience and knowledge that will appreciate a diverse range of products. We’re confident they'll all be impressed with Thermaltake's quality and value-for-money."
Target Components has been appointed UK distributor by networking manufacturer, Linksys.
The distribution deal means Target now stocks Linksys’s portfolio of retail boxed networking lines that includes routers, switches and access points, as well as the latest Mesh WiFi technology and open source routers, many of which were on display at Target’s 20th Anniversary Open Day in September.
Established in the US in 1988, Linksys was purchased by Cisco in 2003, which also picked up a VoIP manufacturer and networking management software developer to benefit Linksys’s market share. Linksys was then then sold to Belkin for $500m in 2013.
Linksys’s heritage saw it become one of the World’s leading domestic router manufacturers, with nearly 30% of the market in 2013.
Martyn Kirby, Target’s Head of Purchasing, commented: “Linksys’s brand strength and range are fantastic news for Target customers. Being so well-known amongst domestic and business users alike means that the latest technologies, like the Velop Mesh WiFi system and open-source routers get into the public mindset quickly, meaning more sales for our customers.”
He continued, “And bucking the trend with open source firmware across some router lines means users have much more freedom to modify settings themselves. Mesh products have proved themselves to be invaluable in many homes and businesses where WiFi connectivity hits blackspots – Mesh simply works out the best possible route around them.”
Linksys’s Regional Sales Manager, Bukhtar Taggar, said; “Target’s broad customer base, particularly with the independent reseller and VAR contingent, is exactly what Linksys is looking for to reach those end users who want reliable next-generation technology with the support and reliability required for today’s usage. The Internet is used throughout the home, in very different ways depending on who the users are. It should be them, rather than the manufacturer, who decides what traffic is prioritised in their own environment, knowing they can get a fast connection wherever they are in any given environment.”
Target Components has been appointed UK distributor by graphics manufacturer, AFox.
The distribution deal means Target now stocks AFox’s entire portfolio of retail boxed Nvidia graphics cards.
Originally Foxconn’s branded graphics division, AFox became independent of the company in 2008. It’s reputation has since been built on producing state-of-the-art, stable and reliable graphics cards for major systems integrators and builders.
With over 20 years’ in-house engineering experience, the company invests heavily in its own Research & Development to produce consumer graphics solutions. Their confidence is mirrored with a 3-year warranty across the entire range.
Martyn Kirby, Target’s Head of Purchasing, commented: “We’re delighted to have AFox on board at Target. Not only are they a highly-regarded manufacturer with a 20-year pedigree but their graphics cards are excellent – well spec’d, attractively packaged and reliable but at pricepoints considerably lower than other brands.”
He continued, “And we are already seeing a lot of positive comment from our customers – they’re now able to offer Nvidia graphics cards that provide the reliability and performance end users expect, but the resellers themselves make decent margins in the process.”
AFox’s Global Sales Representative, Cathy Cai, echoed the sentiment; “Target’s ability to address all types of reseller, whether an etailer, VAR, system builder or independent retailer, is extremely exciting. We are aware of price sensitivity in the UK channel and understand resellers need to be able to offer products that are reliable and perform well but with the ability to make money at the same time– AFox graphics cards do all of that , and Target is very well-placed to take the brand forward.”
See the AFox graphics range here.
Open to all types of independent resellers, from bricks-and-mortar retailers and etailers to consultants and repair specialists, the awards are designed to celebrate their achievements and importance in the channel.
They cover eight different categories across a range of activities such as marketing, business ideas and social media but, uniquely, it is the resellers themselves who then vote for the winners.
Paul Cubbage, Target’s Managing Director explained, “The ShopTalk awards are the climax to the Open Day, a genuine celebration of those on the frontline. They’re there primarily for resellers to share experiences and best practice with each other. Target’s involvement is minimal, other than providing the awards criteria and means to take part – we don’t even vote for the winners, resellers do.”
He continued, “2018 marks our 20th Anniversary and what better way to celebrate than with the people who’ve supported us? We’ve seen some big highstreet names disappear in recent years but the indies are resilient. The awards are a way for them to shout about what they do, day in, day out. And by having their peers as judges in deciding the winners, the credit is genuine and nothing to do with spend or personal preference.”
This year’s Open Day will see the distributor host over 30 different exhibitors, business workshops throughout the day and all-night entertainment celebrating Target’s 20th anniversary.
Nominations for the awards are open now, with the winners being announced during the gala dinner on the evening of the Target Open Day on 21st September in Bradford.
Target Components has been appointed exclusive UK distributor for peripherals vendor, Genius.
The distributor will have access to Genius's entire portfolio of home and business peripherals as well as their newly-launched GX gaming range.
The Taiwan-based company, founded in 1985, has spent the last 30 years developing a broad range of high-quality products to compliment changing requirements in the PC and, more recently, mobile markets, leading to new product additions such as standalone Bluetooth speakers and mobile accessories.
Martyn Kirby, Target's Head of Purchasing, explained the appointment: "This is fantastic news. We’ve worked with Genius for years and our broad range of customers is really well-acquainted with their strengths – high-quality, robust products in really attractive retail packaging with plenty of margin for resellers."
Explaining their decision to consolidate all UK distribution through Target, Billy Tsai, Global Sales Manager for Genius's parent company, KYE Systems, commented: "Target is a key partner for Genius - their large customer base and breadth of independent retailers, etailers and system builder customers gives us excellent access to the UK market. With the addition our GX gaming range and Target’s focus on exclusive UK distribution, we are excited about the future of Genius as a trusted brand in the UK."
The Genius range of peripherals is also available on the In-Store PC Builder, Target’s free-to-use PC configurator that has recently been revamped for a more user-friendly experience.
