Hometech Computers: You'll Never Know Unless You Have a Go

Hometech Centre: New Shop, New LookThe last blog on the 2015 Reseller Awards talked about the reasons why you should enter. A list of things meaning whether you win or not, you'll gain by entering.

Now, it's one thing for us to crow about the Awards and try and persuade you to compete. It's another to hear about it from someone who already has.

Don't take our word taking part makes complete sense, hear it from a Winner. Join us this week as we catch up with Sarah Bowen of Hometech Centre – 2014 winner of ‘Best Shop Layout'.

It all started after a sleepless night

"We established back in November 2009" starts Sarah after Grant (her husband) had a sleepless night.

She continues "He'd been working 15 years freelance, supporting businesses and domestic customers, but he'd always dreamed about having a shop - a more permanent presence. That night, he decided the time was right, so on a shoe-string, we opened one."

What caused you to take part in the Awards?

Hometech Centre - consistent branding across everything"This is our second shop - we opened here in January 2014" says Sarah. "By then we'd got a much clearer view on how we wanted to present ourselves."

She continues. "We did a lot of research and worked with a customer – a design and print business – to develop our branding across everything right down to our price tags."

She carries on, "We thought what we'd done was good – we wanted to showcase it and hoped for some recognition."

How did you feel when you won?

We'd booked a weekend away" says Sarah, "I was at Centre Parcs and Grant came to the Open Day instead."

She continues "The phone reception was really poor – I didn't get to know we'd won until after. But when I found out I was absolutely ecstatic – over the moon: we both were."

She concludes, "It's such a good feeling to get that feedback from your peers."

What has winning been like?

Winning: a huge pat-on-the-back and confirmation they'd done the right things"Business can be hard and a bit thankless" she says. "The Award has given us great confidence and a pat-on-the-back. And we've had calls from other Target customers asking us about what we've done."

She continues, "It's confirmed what we did wasn't a risk - it was the right thing. That all the time and effort we put in fitting out one shop while running the other was worth it."

What would you say to anyone unsure about entering?

"Go for it" Sarah says confidently, "You'll be surprised at your own abilities and how good you are."

She continues, "Don't worry about whether you're good enough – don't let that stop you." She concludes, "You'll never know unless you have a go.
